The client is one of the largest oil and gas companies in the world and produce a number of products from crude oil. The site has a number of of above ground vertical storage tanks, the tank we were managing was 12m high x 18m diameter, this required an out of service inspections periodically to check for corrosion under insulation (CUI) and condition of the tanks, this is a requirement of EEMUA 159. DECOM have carried out many similar projects for the client over the past 7 years, DECOM were appointed as Principal Designer for the 15 month project.

EEMUA 159 Tank Repairs

DECOM was appointed as Principal Designers under the CDM regulations 2015 managed all contractors on site and issued Daily Work Permits for all work in the CDM area. DECOM project managers checked all RAMS for all contractors, carried out daily briefings, attended daily client HSE and Shift Managers meetings. DECOM managed all works this included, asbestos and paint sampling, scaffolding, industrial cleaning UHP jetting, de-lagging and lagging of the tank, painting, tank inspection and repairs to EEMUA 159 standards, installation of new process pipwework, pumps and plant, installation of all electrical and air connections to plant. During the works DECOM project managers found additional issues with the tanks integrity that had been missed during the tank inspection. All work was completed safely on time and budget. DECOM were awarded Contractor of the year by the client for working over 19,000 hours without any accidents or incidents.
