The client a large waste management and demolition contractor was looking at the feasibility of operating a decommissioning facility to allow the safe dismantling and decontamination of offshore structures. They engaged DECOM to look at potential sites that would allow the structures to firstly be landed, then safely dismantled and processed. The study was to look at potential partners and opportunities with particular emphasis on regions of decommissioning within the North Sea Oil and Gas Sector.

OFFSHORE DECOM STUDY

DECOM met the client and agreed the objectives of the study and the outcomes and reports required. The study was undertaken and a site visit to a Port facility was carried out to look at quay facilities, depth of port, depth of quay, capacity of loading and unloading at the port facility, the integrity and loading of the quay for landing heavy objects, processing facilities available at the port and advice on licenses required. DECOM also identified a number of key opportunities with main oil and gas producers and partner organisations to enable the port facility to offer a full turnkey solution. The work was carried out over a 8 week period, a full set of reports were produced and these were presented to the board of directors at their board meeting. The client was very pleased with the report and outcomes presented, all delivered on time and to original budget.
